In order to catch up with today’s fast-paced city life, fast food restaurants with drive-through are everywhere. It is, however, much harder to find a milk tea shop which specialize in providing delicious thirst-quenching drinks using such a convenient and quick method of purchase. Using that as a crux of his inspiration, the founder, Duncan Liew, decided to implement this drive-through concept in his first brainchild – The Metallic Kitchen (previously known as HoldZhuTea).
The Metallic Kitchen is not only the first container restaurant in Malaysia but it is also the first beverage shop which provides drive through service in Malaysia. Half a year was spent scouting for an appropriate location before he finally found an ideal piece of land in Taman Desa Tebrau, which fits many of his criteria. With that, the first The Metallic Kitchen opened for business on 28th July 2013.
With that belief, The Metallic Kitchen finally expands its business 2 years later, with their second branch at Golden Triangle Pelangi, Taman Pelangi that modelled on a bigger scale – five times bigger in 2015. The drive-through concept is still the highlight in this second branch, with more variety of foods added – ranging from local delicacies to western cuisines - to cater & appeal to more people in our community.
The “container culture” in Malaysia is here to stay, and The Metallic Kitchen plans to stay on top of it by coming out with more new drinks to appeal to the mass, as well as adding more specialty dishes to its menu. In time to come, Duncan hopes to bring his brand to other parts of Malaysia as well. Coming soon, new branches are going to be set up in other areas such as Setapak KL, Mount Austin and Bukit Indah within 2017, in fact – to cope with the growing demand.
